Chapter Seventeen
Three Weeks Later
âI didnât get to finish your room,â I tell Ariel, opening the door and showing her the progress that I had made. âI figure that you can put the crib in the corner, and Iâd already started stocking the cupboard with clothes for Mila.â
âYouâre so cute, you know that?â She beams, sitting down on the queen-sized bed. âIt feels good to be here, a fresh start, you know?â
It may be a fresh start for her, but for me, Iâm going to have to face Renny, and everything that I left behind. After that one conversation I never spoke to him again, ignoring all of his messages and calls. I havenât even read any of the messages, and although it did take a lot of willpower, I just didnât want him to sweet talk his way out of what he did, because there are no excuses for it.
âSomeone You Lovedâ by Lewis Capaldi plays as we unpack Arielâs belongings and it doesnât help the situation one bit, my mind unable to escape Renny knowing that heâs just down the road again and that we have unfinished business between us. Part of me wants to hide, and the other part of me wants to storm into that clubhouse and give everyone who looked me in the eye and lied a piece of my mind. If I hadnât overhead that conversation with Dee and Renny, I might have never known the truth, and I would have looked like an idiot to the club for the rest of my life. One of my biggest fears in a relationship is someone making a fool out of me, and Renny did just that.
Weâve only been home for a few hours when he shows up, knocking unapologetically at my door. He must have seen Arielâs car here and knew I was back.
I open the door, and there he stands, dressed in all black, a scowl on those lips I once loved kissing, brown eyes staring daggers at me. âYes?â I ask him, my tone saccharine sweet.
âSeriously?â he asks, giving me a quick once-over. âThatâs all you have to say right now? Yes?â
âItâs more polite than what I really want to say,â I reply, shrugging. âIâm helping my sister unpack, so if you donât mind, Iâd like to have this confrontational conversation another time. Maybe next month? Iâll have to check my schedule.â
Without missing a beat, he pulls me against him, and kisses me. I push at his chest, but my lips move against his, giving him mixed signals. I donât know what to think or feel right now. Iâm angry, Iâm hurt, and Iâve missed him, which only pisses me off even further. Things are so complicated, and I donât know if I should follow my heart or my head.
Eventually, sanity reaches me and I push him off. âWhat do you think youâre doing?â
âI missed you,â he says, scanning my eyes. âLike really fuckinâ missed you. Let me take you for a ride so we can speak.
